Joe's Stone Crab Restaurant

  • $$$$, $40 and up
  • American, Seafood
  • Menu

At South Beach’s first restaurant (where stone crabs, formerly considered junk fish, were put on the menu in 1921), some things never change. When it comes to simple yet flawless food such as the crab claws (served fresh, never frozen, with mustard sauce, butter, or—best–both), or the miraculously crisp fried chicken (a starvation budget-priced insider secret), never changing is good. When it comes to the longstanding no-reservations policy, resulting in two-hour waits for dinner, not so good … but not terminally daunting, either. Go for lunch, when lines are less long, or go next door to Joe’s Take Away, where all the old favorites are available as perfect picnic food.
