O Asian's menu is diverse and alluring, featuring kushiyaki and robatayaki (chicken, meat and seafood grilled over a super-hot bincho charcoal grill) as well as sashimi, soups, salads, rolls and rice bowls. There are more inventive offerings, too, like teriyaki chicken with foie gras-fried rice and sea bass steamed with truffles and green tea soba noodles.
The problem is the pricey and petite portions don't measure up, the staff seems to have been hired more for good looks than know-how, and the scene simply has not caught on, even with the nearly weekly dangling of celebrity bait. Thank the stars for the shrimp-sized noodle bar -- the tiny space (plastered with vintage cigarette ads) is decidedly cool with its quick stir-fries, simple soups and decent pork-fried gyoza.
