Rooney

Don't let their boyish good looks fool you. Rooney plays the type of alternative pop-rock music fans of The Beach Boys and The Beatles can sway to, proven by the success of its album Calling the World. Maybe it's due to their Los Angeles, California-sunshine roots or their penchant for mop-tops and laid-back mod apparel, but the quintet seems to fancy the South Florida weather and seemingly eternal nightlife.

Lead singer Robert Schwartzman, who has acted in the 2001 Disney film The Princess Diaries and cousin Sofia Coppola's The Virgin Suicides; guitarist Taylor Locke, recently linked to The O.C.'s Mischa Barton; bassist Matther Winter; drummer Ned Brower; and guitarist Louie Stephens recently took some time to chat with us about their love for Miami's Latin women, among other things.

What do you like about Miami?
Schwartzman
: ``We've been here before when we played a set for a radio station and we had a great time. It's just really laid-back and the people  - who we have dealt with, at least  - are very friendly.''

Winter: We love South Beach. It's very Latin, and the women are hot!

Stephens: We've always had a great time in South Florida and love the weather and sights.

Brower: South Beach definitely has a different and more Latin feel than Los Angeles. We love the tropical feel of the area and the beaches. The women are hot workout mamis. There are a lot of impressive, flashy, physical enhancements going on around here.

Locke: (jokingly) There's definitely more of that here, and I think the quality is better than in California. They must do saline here. It's less of a forward `melon-look' and more 'tear drop.'

What is your favorite Miami restaurant?
Winter
: We haven't been able to go to many restaurants because we're usually here for such a short time. But, we did all go to Sushi Samba in Miami Beach and loved it.

What do you not like about Miami?
Brower
: Miami seems to be more of a dance city, which is OK, but we wish we could play a headlining club show here. Rock tours don't seem to stop by here as much, and it's strange how many bands don't come here to play for their fans. We would love to play at a music venue here, like the Fillmore. In South Florida, we've only played a full club show at Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, which was fun.

Any last words for fans?
Locke
: To all the beautiful ladies, keep up the good work!

Brower: To all the party guys - how do you do it? It seems like in Miami there's a club open at every hour.

Stephens: The video for our single When Did Your Heart Go Missing? has us playing at the beach. We can definitely see people in Miami playing that at the beach and just having a good time. It's just a perfect background for the music.
