Miami Beach Cinematheque: 512 Espanola Way, Miami Beach; 305-673-4567. Tickets for non-member are $10; $6 for members and students.
- As part of the 1st Annual Hip Hop Conference in Miami, as presented by the FIU Department of African New World Studies, Counting Headz, a film about the love/hate relationship many South African women have with hip-hop, is playing on Wednesday, May 21 at 8 pm. The screening will be hosted by keynote Speaker P. Frank Williams, an Emmy winning TV producer, writer, journalist, author and commentator. Admission is free.
- The 2008 Independent Lens Series, which screens award winning documentaries before they are broadcast on PBS, is presenting New Year Baby, a film about a survivor of the Khmer Rouge genocide and her subsequent search for her family's history. The film is screening on Thursday, May 22 at 8:30 pm. Admission is free.
Cinema Paradiso in Ft. Lauderdale: 503 SE 6 Street, Ft. Lauderdale; 954-525-3456. General Admission is $8; $7 for seniors and students; $5 for FLIFF Members.
- FLIFF's Cinema Verite program presents Treasure of the Sierra Madre on Tuesday, May 20 at 7 pm. All tickets are $5 and the film will be followed by a discussion.
- FAU's DeSantis Center Director Rob Davis hosts a screening of Gunga Din on Monday, May 19 at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 for general admission and free to FLIFF members.
- Hats Off, a documentary about the eccentricities of a 93-year-old American actress who landed her first role 25 years ago by attending an audition on the way to her late husband's memorial service, plays at Cinema Paradiso from Wednesday, May 21 through Sunday, May 25.
- Constantine's Sword, a documentary about a former Catholic Priest James Carroll's research into the mingling of religion and American foreign policy, is also playing at Cinema Paradiso from Wednesday, May 21 through Sunday, May 25. The film is based on Carroll's best-selling book of the same name.
Cosford Cinema: 1111 Memorial Drive, Coral Gables; 305-284-4861. Admission is free for University of Miami Students, $8 for the general public and $6 for seniors and students from other universities.
Holly, a film about human trafficking in Cambodia, and Up the Yangtze, a documentary about the transformation that is taking place on China's Yangtze River due to the Three Gorges Dam project, are screening from Friday, May 23 through Sunday, May 25 at the Cosford Cinema.
Tower Theater: The intersection of SW Eighth Street and Fifteenth Avenue; 305-642-1264. Price of admission varies.
On Friday May 23 at 6 pm, the Tower Theater is hosting a three hour retrospective of Cuban filmmaker Rolando Diaz.
Sunrise Cinemas at Intracoastal Mall: NE 163rd St just west of the Intracoastal bridge in North Miami Beach; 305-949-0064. Price of admission listed on website.
